TDC-1c-2001-01

This is a rather strong, centralized clash event that has occurred on a 2001P Lincoln cent. One oddity concerning this clash is that the rotation while smaller than usual, is also rotated clockwise (2°) instead of the usual counterclockwise direction.

This coin is in Joe Koelling’s collection.

Another unusual aspect of this clash event is that the forward profile of Lincoln is almost completely clashed into the reverse die. Also notice that Lincoln’s eye has also been clashed just below the Memorial building base line.

Two images have been shown of this area (one inverted, the other in the correct orientation) to show this phenomena.

The image to the left shows the clash marks left by the back of Lincoln’s head and his ear.

Parts of Lincoln’s coat and vest can be seen clashed into the motto EPU.
