MDC-ES1p-1965-01

This is a radical misaligned die clash found on a 1 Peseta minted in 1965. The strike is the familiar coin strike which is used in the United States and not the medal strike which is used on the English and Canadian coinage.

What this means is that the normal die clash on the 1 Peseta should have the corresponding die clashes at the top of the obverse and the bottom of the reverse. However, in this instance, the corresponding die clashes are both located at the top of the dies. This die clash event occurred when the dies met and were 180 degrees from the correct orientation and were possibly dropped on each other during installation.

The overlay provided shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash.
