CCL(TI)-1c-1974D-01 (LD) (MAD)

This is a 1974-D Large Date with a type 1 counterclash. There were two clash events. The second clash transferred the parts of the first clash, the forehead, Y (from LIBERTY) and a fragment of the lips, back onto the obverse die. Red arrows show the counterclashes. Green arrows show the originating clash marks on the reverse that were transferred over.

The clash marks are very strong. You can see parts of NE from ONE, NW of the head. Columns and parts of the roof are seen in the fields before and after the portrait. The reverse shows the outline of Lincoln’s portrait.

There is about a 8-9% rotation in the clash and reflected the strike. That is true of the slight MAD as well. Use MM position, the MAD, as well as the gouge below LIBERTY near Lincoln’s back, as die markers.
