This is one of the strongest tilted die clashes to date is found on this 1960D small date Lincoln cent. It appears that the reverse die was changed for there are no clash marks present on that die. The overlay shows the relative position of the dies when they did clash. This coin is from Mike Diamond’s personal collection.

Portions of the letters from the word STATES can be readily seen in this example of a tilted die clash. Even the D from UNITED can be seen clashed at the left tip of Lincoln’s coat. Also seen above the D of UNITED is the left corner of the Memorial building roof. The overlay gives the position of the dies when they clashed.

This die can be easily recognized by the die scratches through the B and E of LIBERTY and the heavy die scratching through the date.

The right side of the Memorial building roof can be seen clashed under the date. The reverse die shows no signs of clash marks and more than likely was changed for a new reverse die.
