This
is by far the most common and the best known radical misaligned die clash from
the last decade of the 20th century. The clash mark is represented by an
impression of the edge of the field portion of the die along with some
letter traces just above it. The horizontal misalignment amounts to
about 30%. A vertical misalignment is also assumed as these are the
only clash marks visible. The upper bar of the "F" of
"oF" from UNITED STATES oF AMERICA can be seen protruding from the
front of Lincoln's coat. In early die states, the tops of the letters
"ES" from STATES can be seen within Lincoln's bust. On the
reverse face, a clash mark representing the front of Lincoln's coat can be seen
passing beneath the top bar of the normal F belonging
to "oF".
The only evidence of this MAD die clash on the
reverse die is a line from Lincoln's coat passing through the upper portion of
the F in OF
