Discovered by Louis Schaeffer, this
1993 cent shows a horizontally and vertically misaligned die clash. The
horizontal misalignment is one of the largest yet discovered, at around
45%. The hammer (obverse) die was misaligned toward the southwest when
the clash occurred. This left the clash mark from the reverse die shifted
toward the northeast. A single incuse letter trace can be seen just
behind Lincoln's collar -- the D from UNITED. The hammer die was also
tilted down toward the southwest. This left an impression
of the edge of the field portion of the reverse die located below and to the
left of the letter trace.
