Every once in awhile, it seems that the pieces of a puzzle do not fit together properly. Such was the case for this 1919 Australian 1 penny coin with a reverse die clash.

While at first glance there appeared to be just one clashing of the dies, it turned out that there were actually three different clash events. The pictures below tell that story.

While we cannot tell which clash event occurred first, I have assigned each event with a number. The number 1 die clash event left a clash mark between the two Ns of PENNY that can from under King George IV's chin and throat area.

The number 2 clash event left a clash line through the O of ONE and into the field below. This clash mark orginated from the back of King George IV's head.

The number 3 clash event left clash marks to the right of the E in ONE and in the lower part of the N in ONE. These marks were generated by King George IV's forehead, nose, ear and eye.
