This is a strong, unabraded, double die clash on a 1988P Lincoln cent hat affects both the obverse and reverse dies. The two over lay pictures show the relationship of the dies when they clashed. Notice that there is the familiar 5° tilt that is commonly seen between the two dies.

The first picture shows the dual die clash with two horizontal lines protruding from the back of Lincoln’s head. The bottom clash mark is left by the cornice on the right side of the Memorial building.

The second picture shows the clash marks left by the Memorial building. Notice the cornice again above the 98 of the date and the roof line dissecting the 1 of the date.

The reverse die has better indicators of the dual clash. Notice in the above picture the two sets of clash marks( indicated by white and black arrows) from the top and back of Lincoln’s head.
